We Creatively Educate the Whole Child

Our curriculum is based on North Carolina's Standard Course of Study, which includes: reading, language arts, literature, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language, music, art, technology and physical education. At OLG, our teachers integrate studies in creative ways so lessons come alive.

Science classes might read a fictional book about owls, study the biology of owls and then dissect owl pellets. A history lesson on World War II might involve reading a fictional account of a young soldier, a visit with the book's author and listening to local World War II veterans as they share their war-time experiences. As we seek to develop life-long learners, OLG works hard to demonstrate that learning takes place everywhere around us – in and out of the classroom.

We also believe that exposing students to cultural, aesthetic, and extra-curricular experiences will increase their understanding of different peoples and cultures. As we seek to create global citizens, Spanish instruction begins in our pre-K classrooms and continues through the lower and middle schools.

Our curriculum interactively engages students both through hands-on, experiential learning and integration of technology into daily lessons. Most of our classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards that allow teachers to prepare dynamic lesson plans and students to create advanced presentations. Students in all grades visit our technology lab weekly for instruction and education.
